What is safe to paste into ChatGPT, Claude, or other AI chatbots?

Treat it like an email to a company. Fine for most things. Leave out what you'd hate to see leaked.
- Leave out passwords, sign-in codes, full Social Security, card, or account numbers. Black them out on screenshots and documents first.
- Look in the app's privacy or data settings for an option about using your chats to train the AI, and turn it off if you prefer.
- Don't paste other people's private info or your employer's confidential work unless your job allows that tool.
- Delete chats you no longer need, and use the app's temporary or private chat mode for sensitive questions if it has one.
Get help if
If you pasted a password or account number, change that password or call the bank. Assume anything typed in may be stored.
