Can strangers reach my phone through Bluetooth or AirDrop?

Reviewed answer

Only if your sharing is open to everyone. Set it to contacts only. Bluetooth itself is low risk.

  1. On iPhone, search Settings for AirDrop and choose Contacts Only or Receiving Off. Everyone mode turns itself off after 10 minutes.
  2. On Android, search Settings for Quick Share and set it to your contacts or your devices.
  3. Decline any share from someone you don't know. Nothing opens unless you accept.
  4. Leaving Bluetooth on for headphones and watches is fine. Keep the phone updated instead.
