Can a browser extension read my passwords or private information?

Reviewed answer

Some extensions can read or change sensitive page content, so install them sparingly.

  1. Open your browser's extensions list and remove anything unfamiliar or no longer needed.
  2. Review each extension's permissions and limit access to specific sites where the browser allows it.
  3. Verify the developer and recent changes before installing. Avoid extensions supplied by unsolicited messages or popups.

Searches redirect, new permissions appear unexpectedly, or an extension requests access to banking and email pages without a clear reason.
