Usually not. Scary pop-ups are just web pages. Letting a stranger connect in is the real risk.
- If a pop-up won't close, force-quit the browser (Ctrl+Alt+Delete on Windows, Command+Option+Esc on Mac). Do not call the number it shows.
- If you let a caller remote in, turn off wifi or unplug the internet, then uninstall any remote-access program they had you install.
- Run a full scan in Windows Security, or update macOS on a Mac.
- From a different device, change your email and bank passwords and call your bank if you shared any account info.

If money moved, or a stranger had remote access while you were logged into your bank, call the bank's fraud line now using the number on your card.
