I gave a scammer gift card numbers. Is the money gone?

Contact the gift card issuer immediately; some funds may still be recoverable.

  1. Call the issuer using the number printed on the card or its official website. Report that the card was used in a scam.
  2. Ask whether the remaining balance can be frozen and whether a refund is possible.
  3. Keep the cards, receipts, and messages. In the US, also report the scam at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Every delay can make recovery harder. Ignore anyone demanding another gift card to release a refund.
