My phone is lost or stolen. What should I do first?
Reviewed answer
Use the official finding service to mark it lost, then protect your mobile and financial accounts.
- From another trusted device, use Apple's Find My or Google's Find Hub to locate and lock the phone if available.
- Contact your carrier to suspend the missing SIM or eSIM. Tell your bank if the phone was unlocked or its passcode was exposed.
- Report suspected theft to local police. Do not confront anyone at a location shown on the map.
- If recovery is unlikely, consider official remote erase after checking backups. Keep a missing iPhone in Find My to preserve Activation Lock.
