Someone used my insurance or identity for medical care. What should I do?

Reviewed answer

Report the false claims and correct affected medical records as well as bills.

  1. Contact your insurer and the provider using independently verified numbers. Identify the services you did not receive.
  2. Request relevant records and ask for inaccurate information to be corrected so it does not affect your care.
  3. Keep written records of disputes. In the US, use IdentityTheft.gov for a recovery plan and report Medicare misuse to Medicare if applicable.
