Someone wants my Medicare number for a new card or free equipment. Is that real?

Reviewed answer

Unexpected offers of cards, tests, or equipment can be attempts to steal your Medicare number.

  1. Do not give the caller your Medicare number or other personal information.
  2. In the US, verify concerns through Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE. Discuss any proposed equipment or test with your own clinician.
  3. Review Medicare claims for services you did not receive. Report exposed numbers and suspicious claims to Medicare.
