Is it safe to charge my phone at a public USB port?

Reviewed answer

The risk is small. Real juice-jacking attacks are rare, but bringing your own charger costs nothing.

  1. When you can, use your own charger in a wall outlet, or a battery pack.
  2. If your phone asks to trust this computer or allow data access while plugged into a public port, say no or choose charging only.
  3. Keep your phone updated. Recent updates fixed the tricks researchers found.
  4. Don't use a cable you found or were handed by a stranger.
