What is a CVE number, and does seeing one mean I was hacked?

Reviewed answer

A CVE identifies a published security flaw; it does not show that your device was attacked.

  1. Copy the complete CVE identifier from the notice so you can check the correct issue.
  2. Read the software or device maker's security notice and compare its affected products and versions with yours.
  3. If you are affected, follow the maker's update or temporary-protection instructions.
