How it works
Scammers run fake livestreams, often using real footage or an AI deepfake of a famous founder, or hijack verified social accounts. They promise to double any crypto you send. Some versions ask you to 'connect your wallet' to claim a prize, which lets them drain it.
Warning signs
- You have to send crypto first to get more back
- A countdown timer or limited time offer
- A livestream from an account that looks official, often with old footage of a famous founder
- A link asking you to connect your wallet or approve a transaction
- Comments or replies from 'winners' saying it worked
If you got one of these
- Do not send anything. No real company or celebrity doubles crypto.
- Report the video or post on the platform: tap the three dots and choose Report.
- Never connect your wallet to a site you reached from a giveaway.
If you already paid or shared something
- Report it to ic3.gov with the wallet address, amount and transaction ID.
- If you connected a wallet or approved anything, move remaining funds to a new wallet right away.
- Ignore anyone offering to recover the crypto for a fee. That is a second scam.
Who gets targeted
Crypto holders and people new to crypto who follow tech and finance celebrities.
